Employees of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, together with colleagues from nine territorial divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, detained suspects in the field of financial services.

"It was previously established that the attackers found citizens with a bad credit history on the Internet who wanted to apply for a loan. Scammers convinced them to use the services of so-called brokers, who allegedly can help get a loan from any bank. Clients were assigned an appointment at the office, their ability to pay was determined, and the price for their services was set. After payment, customers applied to financial and credit institutions, where they were refused to issue money. In turn, the false brokers did not return the money and stopped contacting them.

As a result of operational search activities, police officers detained suspects in several regions of Russia. More than 50 searches were conducted, seals, documents, computer equipment, mobile phones and other items of evidentiary value were seized, " said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.

29 criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which are currently combined into one production. Fourteen defendants were given various preventive measures.

"Currently, the police are carrying out activities aimed at establishing all the circumstances of illegal activities," Iryna Volk added.
