The Parker solar probe has set a new speed record.

NASA announces that it has set a new record with the Parker solar probe, which reached an astounding speed of 635,266 kilometers per hour, becoming the fastest object ever created by man.

This landmark event occurred on September 27 during the probe's 17th orbit around the Sun. The Parker solar probe collects data on charged particles and magnetic fields around our nearest star. The previous record, set three years earlier, was 586,863. 4 kilometers per hour.

For clarity: at this speed, the aircraft could fly around the Earth about 15 times in one hour or cover the distance from New York to Los Angeles in just 20 seconds.

The probe also set a record for the closest approach to the Sun, approaching its surface at a distance of only 7.26 million kilometers, which is about the same as standing a few steps away from a brightly burning bonfire.

The main achievement of the probe is not related to the powerful fuel, but rather the result of a perfectly planned" game " of space mini-golf. NASA used the rocket to correct the trajectory so that the probe could get into the zone of the solar corona. The researchers also used Venus gravity to slow the probe down and allow it to orbit the Sun in a decreasing spiral.

After completing 24 orbits, the probe should complete its mission, providing NASA with a wealth of information that will help to better understand the behavior of the Sun.

With seven more revolutions to go, there's no doubt that new records will be set, reminding people of the heights that can be achieved if you combine physics and curiosity.
