The company's shares are falling, but the employees themselves are optimistic.

Indian IT company HCL Technologies informed local regulators about the cyberattack that occurred on December 20. In its appeal to the National Stock Exchange of India, the company notified about the case of penetration of ransomware into one of its cloud projects.

According to company secretary Manish Anand, no impact on the overall HCLTech network was observed, and cybersecurity and data protection are a priority for the company.

A detailed investigation of the incident involving relevant stakeholders is currently underway to determine the root causes and necessary corrective measures.

HCL Technologies, based in Noida, is one of the largest technology companies in the world with more than 225,000 employees in 52 countries and revenues of $13 billion for fiscal year 2023. After the cyberattack, the company's shares fell by 3.24%.

Large Indian corporations have already experienced ransomware attacks this year. So, in March, Sun Pharmaceuticals, the largest drug manufacturer in India, confirmed the fact of an attack in which company data and personal information of employees were stolen.

In October 2022, Tata Power reported a cyberattack that affected its multibillion-dollar energy business. At that time, Tata did not call this incident a ransomware attack, but reported the need to restore systems and isolate affected networks to protect other parts of the business.

In April, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Department (CERT-In) said that the number of reports of ransomware attacks on organizations in the country increased by 53% during 2022. It is noted that the largest impact is exerted on the information technology and finance sectors, as well as on manufacturing. Ransomware is increasingly targeting critical infrastructure organizations, disrupting critical services for pressure and ransom.
