The head of an IT company risked his freedom because of one signature.

In the United States, charges have been brought against the head of an IT company, Deepak Jain, who is accused of fraud and providing false data in order to conclude a contract with the SEC regulator. According to investigators, Jane and his company deceived the SEC by passing off their data center in Beltsville as a highly reliable facility.

To conclude the contract, the company had to prove that its data center meets the Tier 4 standard, which is the name for the most reliable and secure data centers with 99.995% uptime. However, the certificate presented by the SEC was fake. Moreover, the organization Uptime Council, which allegedly issued the document, did not exist at all. The investigation believes that Jane himself created this organization in order to get a contract and make money on it.

In a statement, the Department of Justice emphasizes that Jane and his company benefited from the security of SEC data. All of these systems had to meet the standards referenced in the forged documents.

The SEC even tried to inspect the data center, but the company's employees prevented the inspection of important areas of the infrastructure where there could be violations. The contract was signed in 2012 and lasted until 2018. During this time, the SEC spent $10.7 million, but at the end of the contract, it refused to renew it.

49-year-old Jane now faces up to 10 years in prison for each count of fraud and up to 5 years for perjury. The name of the company is not mentioned in official documents, but sources link Jane to AiNET, a company that operates in Beltsville, USA, and claims on its website that it operates Tier 4 certified data centers. Reporters tried to contact AiNET, but in response, they only said that Jane was "unavailable" and asked not to call again.

Jane's lawyers said their client was innocent. They stressed that the SEC did not lose a single byte of data and all the terms of the agreement were met. Jane intends to prove his innocence in court.
