Scammers have successfully stuck to the topic of digital currency, since in the first six months of 2021, experts at the antivirus company Avast recorded an increase in the number of schemes in countries where cryptocurrency is gaining popularity.

Most often, cybercriminals use phishing sites that target citizens of countries in which the topic of digital currency is developing. Fraudsters attack users from the USA, Russia, Great Britain, France, India, as well as Brazil and Nigeria.

As noted by Avast Threat Labs experts, who investigated 37 malicious sites, these web resources were disguised as legitimate custodian wallets. The main motivation for the scammers was, of course, the surge in the popularity of bitcoin, and 2021 promises to be a breakthrough year for the digital currency.

Avast experts urged users to remember about the methods of fraudsters who can hide behind rallies from Elon Musk, or can promise to invest your funds with a huge monthly profit. If this sounds too tempting, then it is most likely a scam.

In addition, the researchers recalled suspicious messages that come in popular instant messengers and social networks. Users should immediately block such senders, according to Avast. Don't forget about mobile phishing and malicious apps for smartphones.
