Employees of the Department for Organizing the Fight against the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Rostov region, with the support of special unit soldiers, detained a 26-year-old young man suspected of fraud during a business trip to Sochi.
It is established that in 2022, an attacker together with unidentified persons created a site identical to one of the brokerage platforms. Then the accomplices opened an office on the territory of Sochi and hired employees who did not even know that they had become unwitting participants in the criminal scheme.
Attackers found people who were looking for vacancies on online recruiting sites. After that, we called them up and offered to earn extra money through investment activities. Having agreed, citizens transferred their own funds to cryptocurrency and transferred it to the crypto-wallets specified by them.
As the police found out, the detainee and his accomplices acted according to two schemes. If the victim deposited an amount of up to 500 thousand rubles, then the fake site simulated trading and growth of invested funds. However, the citizen did not receive any deductions. When the amount exceeded 500 thousand rubles, real trading was conducted on one of the existing financial markets. In this case, in the course of a positive outcome, the victim got only a small percentage of the transactions, and the rest went to his accomplices.
Law enforcement officers during searches at the place of residence of the suspect, as well as in the office of scammers seized laptops and mobile phones.
Currently, one victim is identified – a 33-year-old resident of the city of Rostov-on-Don, who lost about 2.8 million rubles. A criminal case has been opened on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
