Insiders revealed the true reason why Apple took the path of unification.
Recently, it became known that Apple implement the RCS protocol in the standard Messages app was caused not by international pressure or criticism from Google, but by new Chinese regulatory requirements .
It turns out that it was the Chinese authorities who demanded that foreign manufacturers of 5G smartphones implement support for the RCS (Rich Communication Services) standard in order to freely sell them on the Chinese market. Obviously, Apple did not want to lose the huge Chinese market and had to go to a meeting on this issue.
Over the years, Google has actively encouraged Apple to implement RCS in its standard messaging tools, in an effort to improve the interaction between Android and iOS users. These efforts are part of a major campaign aimed at bridging the communication gap between popular mobile platforms.
Google insisted that the introduction of the RCS protocol, which is widely used in Android, into Apple smartphones will improve the quality and capabilities of cross-platform messaging, providing security and advanced features such as group chat, high-resolution file transfer and text input indicators. However, Apple remained relentless for a long time.
Beeper also added fuel to the fire by introducing the Beeper Mini Android messenger at the end of last year, which allowed Android users to directly exchange messages with iMessage users without even having an Apple ID account. Of course, this to some extent hit the image of Apple, as it allowed to circumvent the company's long-standing restrictions.
Now everything fell into place regarding Apple's decision: the company simply did not want to lose sales in China. However, it can hardly be said that the Cupertino giant lost something because of its decision to go to a meeting with major market players. On the contrary, Apple not only won the trust and respect of new users, but also managed to maintain a leading position in the market, as well as the location of regulatory authorities.
The Cupertino company's solution highlights its flexibility in adapting to global requirements and laws, as well as its ability to get out of difficult situations with minimal losses to its image and user experience.
The introduction of RCS in the standard iOS app "Messages" will occur in the near future. Only time will tell whether the innovation will somehow affect the current audience of Telegram and WhatsApp.
