Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the Ministry of Justice to conclude an extradition treaty with Thailand. The decree of the head of state is published on the portal of legal information.
The Ministry of Justice is obliged to reach a final agreement with Thailand on the content of the document, after which it will receive the right to sign it. At the same time, Putin allowed unprincipled changes to be made to the draft document. It is worth noting that this agreement has been under consideration for several years. In particular, back in February 2022, Putin approved the relevant government proposal, but then the work on the Russian side did not move forward.
Already in March 2023, the Thai government, for its part, agreed on a draft agreement on mutual extradition. Then it was noted that the authorities did this because of the increase in the number of Russians arriving in the country, some of whom may be related to criminal or cybercrime activities.
