In the Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, the parties are debating on the criminal case of 22 IT specialists, who are considered members of the cybercriminals group who developed the Lurk virus and who have been involved in fraud and theft of data from Russian companies for several years, Octagon.Ural reports. Due to the large number of defendants and the complexity, the case has been in court for almost three years - since December 2018.

Representatives of the state prosecution expressed their position. The prosecutors, having considered the evidence presented by the defense and the testimony, considered the version of the investigation fully proven and asked the court to appoint the defendants real terms of imprisonment.

All the defendants, many of whom were released from custody during the process, were asked by the prosecutor's office for real terms from 6 to 18 years. The most severe punishment threatens Konstantin Kozlovsky, whom the investigation considers one of the leaders of the group. The timing is explained by a difficult article on the creation of a criminal community, - explained the interlocutor of the publication, familiar with the course of the criminal case.

As it was established during the investigation, the developers of the virus were able to infect hundreds of computers in various companies in Russia. Often, the virus made its way into the private network of companies through administrators who used the means of remote control of computers. Sometimes the virus was accidentally introduced by the employees of the companies themselves - the malware was placed in special exploit packs on popular accounting forums and news sites.

The hackers managed to steal money from several large companies; the investigators estimated the total damage at 1.2 billion rubles.
