Will Malaysia's largest transport operator be able to restore security?

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, the largest public transport operator in Malaysia, confirmed the information about unauthorized access to its internal systems, which was previously reported on social media. The incident is related to a possible data leak of up to 316 GB, presumably due to a ransomware attack.

Despite the incident, representatives said that the company's daily operations were not disrupted. Prasarana is currently collaborating with cybersecurity experts to investigate and mitigate the impact of the incident.

The company is also actively working with the National Cyber Security Agency and CyberSecurity Malaysia to ensure that its systems are fully protected and prevent possible threats in the future. Prasarana representatives noted that their priority remains to resolve the situation promptly while maintaining a high level of service for passengers.

Information about the cyberattack became public after a post from Falcon Feeds.io, a platform specializing in cybersecurity, was published on the X* platform. The post claimed that the RansomHub group, allegedly responsible for the attack, was threatening to release Prasarana data within a week.

RansomHub is a ransomware group that locks access to systems or files by encrypting data and demands a ransom payment to restore it.

Prasarana operates an extensive network of transport services under the RapidKL brand, including car, mass and bus transport systems (LRT, MRT and BRT), as well as a monorail and bus fleet in Kuala Lumpur.

The company promised to provide updates as new information becomes available and assured that it is doing everything possible to eliminate the consequences of the incident as soon as possible.
