Fashion and space? Yes, it is possible!

Italian fashion house Prada is partnering with Texas startup Axiom Space to develop an innovative space suit for NASA astronauts who will go to the moon. This became known on Wednesday. Planned for December 2025, the Artemis III mission also includes collaboration with such giants as Elon Musk's SpaceX, Lockheed Martin and Airbus, which will be engaged in the creation and management of the launch system, development of propulsion technologies and transport support for the crew on the Orion spacecraft.

After a long hiatus since the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972, humanity will once again return to the Moon. A special feature of this mission will be that a woman and a representative of national minorities will set foot on the lunar surface for the first time.

"Prada's technical expertise in raw materials, manufacturing methods and innovative design concepts will bring cutting-edge technologies that will ensure not only the comfort of astronauts on the lunar surface, but also take into account important human factors that are not present in old space suits," said Michael Saffredini, CEO of Axiom Space.

According to the official source, Prada specialists together with the Axiom Space team will participate in the design process, developing materials and details of the suit to provide protection from the conditions of outer space and the features of the lunar atmosphere.

"Our decades of experimentation, cutting-edge technology and design expertise, which began back in the' 90s with Luna Rossa competing for the America's Cup, will now be applied to the design of the Artemis - era spacesuit, " Prada Group Marketing Director Lorenzo Bertelli said.

The new space suit design includes improved flexibility, greater protection to withstand harsh environments, and specialized tools for research and other scientific capabilities, the companies said.
