Types of POS terminals for customer service

Cash register POS-terminal. Software and hardware complex designed for trading in accordance with the requirements of Federal Law No. 54-FZ and workflow automation. The basis of these online sales registers is a system unit (equipped with a slot for fiscal storage) with a monitor. Some cash registers (KKM, KKT) are additionally equipped with a receipt printer, a buyer's display, a barcode scanner, and a card reader. Their main advantage over POS systems is that by combining everything necessary for comfortable and fast trading, they take up less space in the cash register area.

Types of KKT:
  • monoblock;
  • smart terminals.
Monoblock - a processor (with trading software installed) combined with a touch screen. Some models are equipped with a card reader and a buyer's display. For conducting trading operations, peripheral equipment is connected to the monoblock: a receipt printer, a barcode scanner, scales, a money box, and so on.

Models: ATOL Jazz, ViVA Smart ATOL, Sigma 10 Atol, POScenter A7P, OL-P05.

Smart terminals — stand-alone online sales registers with a touch screen and built-in printer and fiscal storage. Otherwise, they are called "smart" online sales registers, as they provide maximum opportunities for business development with minimal equipment purchase costs. The basis of these cash registers is a tablet PC with pre-installed software, which is not inferior in functionality to the cash register equipment for large retailers. Checkout's capabilities are not limited to printing a receipt and sending sales data to the tax office. Thanks to KKT, you can forget about such routine as filling out reports manually, calculating expenses, income, and net profit. Also, you don't have to worry about running out of goods and not having time to order them: some models support the function of automatically sending invoices with scarce goods to the supplier.

This includes the following KMCS: Evotor line, Cassatka 7 and 10, Viki Mini, Atol Optima, Atol Strike.

POS payment terminals. This category includes devices for non-cash payment. If a large retail company has long accepted payments not only in cash, but also through POS-terminals, small and micro businesses are still lost in doubts — is it worth installing a POS-terminal? The answer is unequivocal-it is worth it. More and more customers prefer non-cash payments. Imagine this situation: a customer comes to you who is ready to purchase a large amount of goods/services, but they don't have any cash. Naturally, they will reject the purchase in favor of the point of sale where the payment terminal is installed. As a result, you lose up to 30% of your profit every day.

The way out of this situation is to use a POS terminal for acquiring.

Types of devices:
  • offline;
  • integrated;
  • mobile phone number.
Stand-alone POS terminals are devices with a receipt printer that can be conveniently used in fast food outlets, for delivery of goods, or at retail outlets (despite the fact that it prints a receipt to the buyer, the fiscal document of the CRF can only be sent via the CMC). It can be divided into 2 subtypes: stationary (powered only from the mains) and portable (powered by the mains and battery).

Integrated-devices that are connected to cash registers are not suitable for autonomous operation, because they do not have a thermal printer.

Mobile terminals. This includes card readers that connect to your smartphone (designed for courier delivery), and modules for vending.

Windows and Android OS for POS terminals

KKT can run on the Windows or Android operating system, less often on Linux. The POS terminal's capabilities directly depend on the operating system installed in it. For example, a large number of programs designed for trading have been developed for Windows. Andriod is slightly inferior in this regard, but it is actively developing and will soon catch up with its "competitor"in terms of the number of developed programs. In addition, developers create business-specific apps, some of which can be installed for free. Windows can't boast of such generosity - you'll have to pay not only for the software, but also for the system itself.

At the end of 2022, an inexpensive version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise became available, on the basis of which ATOL's Jazz and ViVA Smart monoblocks are already functioning. The software is designed for budget compact devices that do not require high performance. The cost of the OS is only $45.

Owners of Android smartphones and tablets will love the functionality of POS terminals based on this operating system, for example, Evotor smart terminals. They are easy to set up and perform calculations.

Bank POS terminals that print receipts

We are talking about autonomous devices, which are a ready-made solution for those business areas that have received the right not to send fiscal documents about each sale to the Federal Tax Service until July 1, 2019. Until then, they are required to issue their clients a strict reporting form (BSO), which is analogous to a check printed on a bank pos terminal. Starting from the second half of 2019, all business entities that had a deferral will need to install a POS terminal with a fiscal accumulator in order to send checks to the tax inspectorate, in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.

Let's take a closer look at the popular models of autonomous terminals.

Payment via POS terminal: connecting and configuring the device

When choosing equipment, be guided by the specifics of the company's activities. If you trade or provide services on-site, i.e. do not travel to fairs or exhibitions, stationary models are suitable. Battery-powered devices are necessary if the area where your store or office is located is often experiencing power outages.

If you periodically have to travel with goods or provide services at home, buy a device with the ability to work independently. Courier delivery requires light, compact models that can be connected to your phone or tablet and fit in your pocket.

How do I configure my device?

Let's consider setting up a POS terminal using the example of the Evotor online sales register and Ingenico IPP350. Pre-download and install the terminal connection utility from the Evotor App Store. If you are not registered in the system, go through the registration process, and then you will have access to your personal account and app store. Find the "Ingenico POS Terminal Driver" and download it. The cost of the utility is 2500 rubles for each connected unit of equipment (if you have several retail outlets and KMCS).

After installing the driver, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the bank terminal, insert the wire into the USB connector, and press the F key to enter the machine into the cash register mode (the question "Work with the cash register?"will appear on the screen). — "Yes").
  2. Next, confirm the CCT setting and select the "Interface" option.
  3. Select the USB-USB PCL channel and exit checkout Settings by pressing the red key.
  4. Click on the parameter "Network" — "IP via CCT" — "No", go back to the Settings.
  5. Go to the "Dialogs" option — "Dialog on KKT" — "No".
  6. Go to the section "Print" — "Receipt width", enter 32, after deleting the indicator 36 (yellow key), confirm with the OK button.
  7. Exit "checkout settings" and select" Save "in the "checkout" section.
The message "Waiting for KKT connection" will appear on the screen. Everything is ready to work with the online sales register. All that remains is to configure it. On the main screen, select the tile "Settings" — "Hardware menu" — "Bank Terminal" — "Driver". After that, the terminal will display the words "CCT is connected" and "Ready to work".

How do I accept payment from a bank card?

Using the example of the autonomous Ingenico ICT250, we will consider the process of preparing for the operation of software and technical equipment for acquiring . First, you need to install a SIM card, the slot of which is located in the battery compartment, and a receipt tape. Open the paper tray, load the roll into it on the "drop and print" principle, and snap the lid shut. Hold down the green key and turn on the machine.

Usually, after turning on the acquiring equipment, the message "Insert card" appears on the monitor. The following actions of the cashier depend on the payment method chosen by the customer.

Let's consider the first method of performing an operation using a magnetic card.
  1. Place it with a magnetic stripe facing down and swipe it across the reader, and then the card details will appear on the terminal screen.
  2. Use the green button to confirm the operation. The card number and owner's details will be displayed. Also confirm with the OK key.
  3. The "Payment" and "Refund"labels will appear. We accept money from the client — select the appropriate item, go to the next menu.
  4. Enter the transaction amount and confirm with the OK button.
Next, the terminal will start connecting to processing, print out the receipt document to the client upon completion, and after pressing the green key — for the cashier.

The second method is a contact carrier with a chip:
  1. Insert the card chip first into the card reader and do not remove it until the end of the operation. After recognizing the information from the chip, the data of the contact carrier will appear on the display, confirm with the OK key.
  2. Next, you will see the "Payment" and "Refund" items, select the appropriate operation.
  3. The following menu opens, enter the transaction amount, and confirm it.
  4. Next, the equipment will ask you to enter a PIN code, the client enters it, and confirms the calculation.
The device will also print out 2 fiscal documents.

The third method is contactless payment.
  1. Select "Payment" and enter the amount.
  2. The customer will hold the card up to the device, and an audio signal will notify them that the purchase has been paid for.
The receipt will also be printed in duplicate.

This method is suitable for payments that do not exceed 1,000 rubles. A very fast and secure option, as the buyer does not need to enter a PIN code.

Which bank offers the most favorable conditions for working with a POS terminal?

There are three types of acquiring: commercial, mobile, and Internet acquiring. The first one is connected for stationary equipment, the second-for mobile devices, and the third-for payment in an online store. The cost of each type is determined individually by the acquiring bank and consists of several components: the company's monthly turnover, the number of cash registers serviced, and the type of cards accepted. In addition, some FCS charge a one-time registration fee and a monthly maintenance fee.

To use the bank's services and connect the acquiring POS terminal, you need to open a current account, collect a package of documents, write an application, and select a tariff.
