A polygraph test is a mandatory requirement when selecting a candidate for service, but this is not the end of communication with him using a polygraph.
Any operative, like his superior, undergoes scheduled polygraph tests throughout the entire period of service so that the higher management, including the country's leadership, remains calm and does not have to worry about the safety of the homeland. Moreover, now the leadership is so concerned about the safety of the homeland that similar periodic tests using a polygraph are selectively carried out in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Investigative Committee, the prosecutor's office, even the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate.
The questions asked during the test are standard - whether he took bribes or not, whether he used his official position for personal gain or not, etc. As can be seen from the list of questions, they are all aimed exclusively at ensuring the security of the state.
Then it remains to figure out what to do with the results of the tests and how to use them.
This is a question that requires a detailed answer and, first of all, it is necessary to understand that a polygraph is just a generalized name for a bunch of sensors that record the psychophysiological emotional signs of the respondent. In other words, the polygraph will not give an exact answer to the question of whether the respondent is lying or not, it can only show that the respondent is behaving in an unusual way (is worried) when answering a particular question. The results of such studies end up on the desk of a psychologist-polygraph examiner, who will analyze the level of deviations of your reactions from standard reactions when answering questions honestly and only then will conclude that the respondent took a bribe with an X% probability.
No court or prosecutor will take on a case in which a person is accused of an X% probability of taking a bribe. This fact may calm you down a little, but you must understand that the country's leadership is too worried and when receiving such a conclusion on an employee of the office, in 99% of cases a decision will be made to fire him.
If we are talking about an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, then this is a gold mine for the security officers. The FSB operatives periodically review the information about their polygraph tests and, if there are interesting conclusions, the person is taken into work, and after a short time, this person will work in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but in the interests of the FSB, in parallel with his main duties, carrying out the instructions drawn up for him by the security officer. Such work is put on stream and, as a rule, is quite productive.
As for the polygraph test of physicists, who are being worked on in the office, it is rarely used.
Firstly, it is a long and tedious process - on average, the test together with the calibration and questionnaire takes about 5 hours.
Secondly, the results of this test are only advisory in nature and with a conclusion about the X% probability that you committed an act of treason, the operative has nowhere to run, all that remains is to rely on persuasion and use the test results as argumentation for obtaining a confession.
What recommendations can be given for preparing for such tests?
There are not many of them, the office has not yet come up with the miraculous "truth serums" that the cinema loves to depict, and a significant number of conclusions have to be made only on probabilistic conclusions.
The key here is preparation, which takes time. The respondent always knows about the polygraph test in advance, even with so-called unscheduled tests, the respondent has a week or two at his disposal.
During this time, you should clearly and 100% honestly determine for yourself which questions you do not want to give honest answers to. Such questions are likely to be found in the biography of each person, and even more so if you were invited to a polygraph test, there is a certain list of questions that they want to ask you. When preparing, you should clearly understand that the polygraph records the psychophysiological signs of your body. In other words, the reaction of the body, and above all the brain, to the question asked. This is where the weak link of such tests lies.
The respondent's task is to force his brain to react correctly to the question asked, and the key here is conviction, or rather self-conviction. Even before you sit down in the chair and the sensors are hung on you, you must be 100% convinced that you are answering the truth to all the questions asked. The key here is to tell the truth and make your brain believe that it is true.
The method can be described with an example.
If the detective really took a bribe, how to correctly answer the question whether he took a bribe? The correct answer is "no", because it was not a bribe, but a gift/contribution to a common cause/investment/debt, and the most important thing is that you must be 1000000% sure that it was a gift, nothing else. You must not deceive yourself, otherwise the devices will show your reaction, at the preparation stage you must convince your brain that it was a gift, not a bribe.
There are many examples, but the essence comes down to one thought - "if you deceive everyone for a long time, you yourself begin to believe in your own lies." This is the target state of the brain, with which you must come to the test using a polygraph. Convince yourself, your brain, that you are telling the truth, using ambiguities in the questions that will be asked.
And one more little trick in preparation - general condition. Despite the examiner's recommendations to get enough sleep, you should not do this. Lack of sleep for 1-2 hours before passing the test will play an important role in smoothing out the brain's reactions to "square" questions. And the key will remain only for you to not show external signs of lack of sleep, because otherwise the results may be considered invalid and you will be sent for a repeat test.
And this is not easy, the test is carried out in a comfortable chair, in conditions of absolute silence, in a completely motionless state and takes from 3 hours, depending on the volume of questions, but you can endure it and, if you need the right answers to all the questions, it is quite realistic.
