The Indian Investigative Committee in Guwahati has questioned Bollywood actress Tamanna Bhatia about an alleged connection to the HPZ Token fraudulent crypto scheme, where investors lost money.

Tamannaah Bhatia, 34, attended an event organized for HPZ Token and received a fee for participating. Investigators are looking into whether Bhatia, who backed the platform, could have inadvertently convinced investors to invest in a service that turned out to be a scam. Bhatia's interrogation lasted several hours, and no charges have been brought against her at this stage. However, the police will continue to investigate its connection to HPZ Token.

The HPZ Token cryptocurrency scheme has been at the center of a large-scale investigation related to money laundering and financial fraud. According to law enforcement officers, the organizers of HPZ Token offered investors to make money on mining and investing in bitcoin. Depositors were promised a daily profit of 4,000 rupees (about $47) with an initial investment of 57,000 rupees ($678) for three months. According to the complaints of the victims, they were paid only once, after which they were required to deposit more money under various pretexts.

Investigators found that HPZ Token is associated with 299 front organizations, of which 76 are controlled from China. Ten directors of these organizations are of Chinese origin, and two are foreign nationals. These fictitious organizations could be used to open bank accounts to hide the proceeds of criminal activity, police suggested.

In addition to promoting the HPZ Token, the Bollywood star was also questioned about promoting the illegal broadcast of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches through a dubious application related to the online gaming and betting platform Mahadev. Bhatia was previously questioned in Maharashtra in connection with a similar investigation into her association with betting app Fairplay. The actress promoted watching IPL matches on a platform that is under the scrutiny of law enforcement due to illegal betting activities.
