According to Vedomosti, the video recorders are the development of NtechLab, whose shareholders include a subsidiary of the state corporation Rostec. A representative of the developer company confirmed the creation of such a gadget for security officials and security guards, specifying that the device may also be of interest to the Russian Guard and border guards.
The camera is similar to a walkie-talkie, but slightly smaller, and is attached to clothing. The gadget analyzes the video stream, highlighting people's faces from it, then using Wi-Fi or the Internet via a SIM card, the data is sent to the server. After that, the received images are checked against the available databases. If the photos match, the system will send a signal to the device. The received information will be displayed on the screen of the device. The camera will be able to recognize faces at a distance of 3.5–4.5 m.
One of the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that if the tests of the new devices are successful, then the face recognition function will be introduced into the portable video recorders that are now used by the police.
