During the day, there were at least 12 arson attempts, both elderly and young people fell for the tricks of scammers.

In Russia, at least 11 cases of arson or attempts to set fire to military commissariats occurred per day. Most of the arsonists said they were deceived by scammers who called them on the phone. This is evidenced by data from various media and telegram channels.

On July 31, in the evening in St. Petersburg, a 53-year-old man threw Molotov cocktails at the door of the military registration and enlistment office on Tchaikovsky Street, and then tried to break into the building by car. As Mash on the Moika reported, the man was deceived by phone scammers who forced him to take out several loans, and two weeks later, a “bank security officer” connected him with an “FSB officer.” The latter allegedly offered to help with the repayment of debts if the man agreed to take part in the investigation into the case of fraud in the military registration and enlistment office. To do this, he had to set fire to the door of the institution in order to distract the military.

Fraudsters acted in a similar way in other regions. According to Shot and Baza, they convinced a 45-year-old woman in Mozhaisk that they wanted to get a loan in her name, and to avoid this, she needed to pour lighter fluid on the glass of the military registration and enlistment office building. A gang of criminals allegedly hid there, which had to be lured out.

On July 31, in the city of Rossosh, Voronezh Region, a teacher threw a Molotov cocktail at the military registration and enlistment office. She said that she received a call from the Central Bank and was warned about fraud with her accounts. Then she received a call allegedly from the police, who said that the swindler was hiding in the military registration and enlistment office. The teacher went there with a combustible mixture, thinking that she was helping law enforcement officers.

According to the telegram channel Chita.Ru, in the village of Aginskoye, a 17-year-old girl tried to set fire to the military enlistment office after a call from scammers. They told her that there was a “traitor” in the building, who was passing data to Ukrainian intelligence about the residents of the village participating in the hostilities in Ukraine.

In addition, cases of arson or attempts to set fire to military enlistment offices were recorded in Podolsk (two pensioners were detained), Kaluga (a 77-year-old woman was detained), Chelyabinsk Region (two military registration and enlistment offices were set on fire), Kopeysk (a 55-year-old woman was detained), Verkhneuralsk (a 35-year-old woman was detained), summer woman). Also in Sestroretsk, a woman with packages came to the draft board and announced that she was going to set it on fire. According to witnesses, she was very nervous and held the phone in her hands.

The Telegram channel Baza reported another arson attack on a military registration and enlistment office in Ulan-Ude. Thus, in just one day there were at least 12 attempts to set fire to military commissariats.
