The injured widow discovered the write-offs six months after the death of her husband.

Moscow resident Anatoly died in the spring of 2024. However, only six months later, his widow discovered that 1,271,700 rubles had been debited from her husband's bank account.

As it turned out, the criminals restored Anatoly's eSIM card and gained access to his account. The attackers were somehow able to obtain the passport data of the deceased, after which they came to the communication salon on Baumanskaya and issued a duplicate SIM card. With the help of this SIM card, they managed to withdraw all the money from the bank account.

Anatoly's relatives learned about this incident only six months later, when the widow looked into her husband's account and discovered the loss of a large amount. After receiving bank statements, it turned out that unknown persons gained access to the account just a week after the death of the owner.

Experts strongly recommend: in case of any changes related to your mobile number (change, loss, termination of use), you must immediately unlink it from:
  • Public Services Portal
  • Banking applications
  • Social networks
  • Email
  • Other services that use a phone number for authentication

Particular attention should be paid to this issue in the event of the death of close relatives. It is necessary to promptly disconnect their numbers from all digital services in order to avoid such fraudulent actions.
