According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group, online payment services and virtual currency sites are the most targeted by fraudsters, The Paypers reported.

According to the study, the number of phishing attacks remains high in 2021, and the second largest wave of phishing attacks was identified in the second quarter of this year, with 42,793 new attacks per month.

At the same time, the number of phishing sites has decreased compared to the first quarter of 2021. In the second quarter of 2020, when the number of attacked sites was 639, the total number of phishing sites fell by 17%, and already in the second quarter of 2021 the number of such sites was 531. This is due to the fact that a high concentration of fraudulent attacks is concentrated on more vulnerable sites.

Websites that provide payment services are most susceptible to the attack of fraudsters. For example, there have been cases of phishing attacks on the Australian payment site PayLife, the Chinese payment system Perfect Money and the American online payment provider Payoneer.

The study also showed that the number of phishing attacks on online stores and websites providing various services also increased, from 11.5% to 16.5%.

Recall that according to a study by ACI Worldwide and Aite Group, 23% of users changed financial institutions in connection with cases of fraud.
