A new way to keep order where it usually doesn't.
Japan's National Center for Consumer Affairs has recommended "digital legacy" planning to make it easier for loved ones to manage the accounts and subscriptions of the country's citizens after their death. This initiative arose due to many cases when relatives faced difficulties in canceling subscriptions due to the lack of access to the accounts of the deceased.
The center offers four steps to minimize such complexities:
One solution could be apps that run in dead man's switch mode. These services send data to selected persons if the user has not logged in to the account for a long time.
In addition, conditional Meta provides the ability to appoint a so-called "Legacy Contact" - the successor of the user's powers, who will be able to manage the account after the official confirmation of the owner's death.
Such functions greatly facilitate many processes for relatives who are already under severe stress. Experts emphasize that pre-prepared data helps to avoid financial and emotional difficulties.
The idea of digital planning not only helps to organize your legacy, but also opens up new opportunities for entrepreneurs who create such services. Sooner or later, most websites and services will be able to provide such functionality, and the only question is whether our digital heritage will turn into an orderly archive or remain a chaotic echo of the past lying somewhere on the web.

This initiative arose due to many cases when relatives faced difficulties in canceling subscriptions due to the lack of access to the accounts of the deceased.
The center offers four steps to minimize such complexities:
- Appoint a trusted person to manage digital data (in services that support it)
- provide access to your devices by writing out key logins, passwords and PIN codes;
- create a list with the entire list of subscriptions issued;
- enter all the above data into the will.
