Employees of the company-supplier of IT services fraudulently and, not without a small IT, took money from the client for their services already rendered, which he did not want to pay for a long time. The plan was simple and at the same time sophisticated-its key participant, an employee of the IT company, did not even know what was part of this scheme.

The service was provided. The cash register is over there.

The company engaged in the provision of IT services was faced with the reluctance of one of the customers to pay for its service, which has already been rendered earlier. This client was a quarterly journal, writes The Register with reference to one of the former employees of this IT company. The real name of the interlocutor is not reported - The Register calls him Ian.

Ian told The Register that the magazine "struggled to seem cool." But anyone who dealt with him eventually compared them with scammers from all the famous films by Guy Ritchie, Ian noted.

According to Ian, the impression of the publication’s employees as the unclean hand deeds intensified that this company was extremely reluctant to pay the accounts of the companies whose services they used, and sometimes completely rejected them. She allowed herself to pay for an account of a particular company only when she urgently needed her new service. But in the case of the company in which Ian worked, this magazine had to pay all the accumulated debts against his own will, which was the goal of a small performance, Ian himself became a participant and the main character against his will.

No day - no Internet

Once Ian’s company entered the company, at the other end were employees of this publication. “We have lost everything, but the deadlines are settled,” they complained.

Ian arrived at their office and explained that he could not help, because his employer is already tired of demanding payment of accounts. And Ian's current visit was paid for with an advance, which is why he arrived.

“I listened to the tirade about how we keep them in suspense, and what to force them to wait is to jeopardize the very existence of their business”, Ian The Register said. As a result, after some time, the client paid all previously rendered services, after which Ian began to find out what had happened.

He found that the client’s office was left without connecting to the Internet, and in addition to this trouble, his entire local network did not function. Ian decided to check the settings of the router and the switch, where he immediately found the reason for what happened.

As it turned out, someone deleted absolutely all the settings for the Internet connection and drew the data of the IP addresses of local computers, without which the operation of the local network is impossible. Everything looked like someone dropped the settings of network devices to the factory.

Guilty or not

According to Ian, his suspicions immediately fell on the journal’s employees, but they violently denied their involvement in what happened, stating that they did not touch anything. Ian eventually decided that it was a router’s failure, restored Internet access and a local network, after which he returned to his office.

Later on the same day, the colleague asked Ian if he visited the magazine’s office, to which he replied that he really traveled on their call, after which he spoke about a strange incident with a router. And at that moment his colleague told him how everything really was.

It turned out that a few days before Ian arrived in the office to the client, this client, in the person of the publication, rejected his account, saying that the amount indicated in it was overpriced.

“My colleague was so angry that he entered the settings of the router and erased all the data,” said Ian The Register.

According to Ian, this was unexpectedly pleasant news, because he himself was afraid that he had lost sight of the true cause of the problem. “That's why I didn’t tell you that I wanted to make sure that your reaction is sincere”, his colleague told Ian.

In other words, the company, in which Ian worked, forced its not the best client to pay in the account for the previously provided services through a small hacker attack, which entailed the failure of the local network and a breakdown of Internet access. Whether this hacker attack became, albeit, which was made with good intentions for the company itself, does not specify the cause of any negative consequences for the client.
