Security forces neutralized a man in the city of Ob near Novosibirsk, who was stealing cryptocurrency with the help of malware. More than 1000 users became victims of the hacker.
The alleged thief of the virtual currency was identified by the joint efforts of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Novosibirsk Region and the special police unit to combat cybercrime. A 31-year-old man used malicious software to “hack” user accounts and steal digital money from their accounts.
“A citizen purchased malware from closed Internet resources to steal passwords from users' computers. Using the virus, he was engaged in the theft of cryptocurrency, since 2018, more than a thousand network users have become his victims, ”the press service of the FSB Directorate for the Novosibirsk Region reported.
Investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case against the hacker. He is charged with part 1 of article 273 of the Criminal Code of Russia (creation, use and distribution of malicious computer programs).
Now the FSB officers are working on the defendant for involvement in other cybercrimes.
