Representatives of one of the Ukrainian non-bank payment systems spoke about the main trends in the market
E-commerce and the share of cashless in Ukraine are growing steadily - and the pandemic has only accelerated this. The growth of the market for non-cash payments last year amounted to 41%. Almost 10% of all purchases in Ukraine are now carried out online - on marketplaces, online stores and social networks. Everything goes digital, and this is the main trend that determines the development of the market.
Alexey Ruban, director of business and technology development at Novapey, spoke about this at a meeting with journalists. According to Alexey, digitalization is happening at an accelerated pace. And everything related to smartphones will develop most actively - a variety of mobile wallets, contactless payments, accepting payments using NFC, etc. For example, already in 2021, Novaya Pochta will introduce Visa's Tap To Phone solution in its branches, which allows accepting payments using a smartphone instead of traditional POS terminals.
Also this year one of the key trends in the market is online and offline synergy. On the one hand, the quarantine and coronavirus crisis showed the need for an online presence. On the other hand, when the situation stabilizes, it is important not to stay away from those players who quickly return offline.
Alexey also spoke about new technologies and smart client identification. According to the expert, modern methods of biometric identification will be actively used by retail and other businesses. After all, technologies are developing, becoming more accessible to companies. Nova Poshta plans to implement smart client identification solutions in the near future. In particular, at the entrance to the department, the client will be automatically recognized, without contact with the operator, due to which the parcel will quickly fall into the user's hands.
The director of business development and technology of Novapey called the movement towards paperless as another trend in the market. Currently, thanks to the deregulation of the payment market, the company has managed to implement cloud fiscalization and electronic checks. And one of Novapey's most ambitious goals for 2021 is to move away from paper altogether.
The company also closely monitors the development of the cryptocurrency market and expects the implementation of legislation in the field of open banking - this will provide a number of new opportunities for non-bank payment systems.
Recall that Novapay (formerly Post Finance) is one of the leaders among money transfer systems in Ukraine created by non-banking institutions, according to the statistics of the National Bank (46% of the market). Today, the number of the company's clients is 8 million people, the number of transfers made in 2020 is 264 million, which is 37% more than in 2019. Andrey Krivoshapko, CEO of Novapey, noted that the number of active users of the New Mail mobile application in 2020 was 6.3 people, and the share of non-cash payments exceeded 30%.
Of the main innovations over the past year, a company representative notes the launch of the opportunity to pay for a large number of services - utilities, mobile top-up, cash withdrawals at the checkout, as well as the launch of an auto-write service. It works as follows: in the client's mobile application, a payment card is tied, as soon as he picks up the parcel at the department, the operator, upon request, can initiate the withdrawal of money from the tied payment card. “It's convenient and safe. The entire retail sector will move towards this, ”noted CEO Novapey.
