Will the attackers be able to hit the big jackpot?

MGM Resorts International, one of the largest hotel and entertainment companies, announced a cyber incident that disrupted several key systems. Failures were noticed on the main site, in the online booking system and casino services. ATMs, slot machines, and credit card payment terminals were targeted.

On the social network X (formerly known as Twitter), representatives said that measures have already been taken to protect data and internal systems. The investigation began immediately after the discovery of suspicious activity.

Computer services of large resort hotels still do not function. Employees perform all operations manually, as ATMs and payment terminals are also disabled. The main pages indicate that customers can book rooms by phone. Users of the MGM Rewards loyalty program are advised to contact customer support.

All MGM Resorts sites that use the same domain name mgmresorts.com, unavailable for several hours.

Guests of some hotels report that they are physically unable to get into their rooms: electronic keys do not work. The same message is displayed on the screens of slot machines – "temporarily unavailable".

Details of the incident have not yet been disclosed, and the motives of the attackers are also unknown. This is the second confirmed cyber incident in the company since 2020. Then more than 10 million customer records, including names, dates of birth, email addresses and phone numbers, were publicly available on a hacker forum.
