The Central Bank of Russia warned about a new way to deceive citizens.

The Central Bank of Russia has warned that fraudsters have begun to use a new method of deceiving citizens. They get in touch with potential victims on behalf of their relatives, friends or colleagues, imitating their voices using special programs. This is how they try to extract personal and financial data from people or force them to make a money transfer.

The regulator noted that attackers use combined fraud schemes, mainly telephone fraud. At the same time, they are increasingly creating address schemes based on a digital portrait of a person, which is based on information from open Internet resources: social networks, work and leisure sites, etc.

"We recommend that people take a cautious approach to posting personal and financial information on social networks and other open resources. Never send information from documents in messengers or social networks, or enter your personal data on questionable sites. There is no need to make any monetary transactions at the request of individuals received by phone, " the representative of the Central Bank said.

In case of doubt, the Central Bank advises you to call the person on whose behalf you are being called and ask them for information.

Experts note that the direction of voice deepfakes is now actively developing, but it is still difficult to plausibly clone someone else's voice.
