The Houthi tool helps fight American democracy in the Red Sea.

The United States has launched a cyberattack on an Iranian warship for collecting and transmitting intelligence on merchant ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to Houthi militants.

The cyberattack occurred on February 2 in response to a drone attack organized by Iranian militias in Iraq that killed three American soldiers at a remote base in Jordan and injured dozens. This information was provided by an anonymous US military official.

For several weeks, US experts suspected that the MV Behshad, located near the African port of Djibouti, collected intelligence about ships in the area and passed it on to the Iranian Houthis. Using this information, the Houthis carried out missile strikes and drone attacks on naval vessels.

Iranian officials deny the charges, and the Houthis explain their actions as a desire to express support for the Palestinians in response to Israeli attacks in Gaza. The purpose of the cyberattack was to interrupt the ability of the Iranian ship to exchange information with the Houthis, but the US military did not disclose details of the mission.

Recall that on February 11, a hacker group from Bahrain, known as "Storm", carried out a successful cyber attack on the onboard systems of ships of the US 5th Fleet. Hackers claimed to have gained access to classified US military documents, including photos and detailed plans for a US military base in Bahrain.
