Connecting the Reader / Writer to the Computer Simply connect the Reader / Writer to the computer using the supplied USB cable. 1 Start your computer. 2 Connect the smaller connector on the USB cable to the USB port on the back of the reader / writer. On some computers and under some operating system conditions, the reader / writer may not work at all or may be unstable. If this happens, see the Troubleshooting section. (page 21) After disconnecting the USB cable, wait at least 5 seconds before reconnecting it (if this condition is not met, the reader / writer may not be recognized). If two or more USB devices are connected to the same computer, simultaneous operation of the reader / writer and some other types of USB devices is not guaranteed. Simultaneous access to two or more memory cards on one computer by connecting additional devices for working with memory cards is not possible. Remove all memory cards from the reader / writer, or turn off other devices. 3 Connect the larger connector on the USB cable to the USB port on the computer. For Windows Some computers may display a message asking you to insert an operating system disc. If this happens, follow the instructions on the computer screen. Some computers may display the message USB Mass Storage will function at reduced speed, indicating that the Hi-Speed USB device is connected to a USB port that does not support Hi-Speed USB data transfer. If your computer has multiple USB ports, try connecting to a different port. Alternatively, close the displayed message and continue using the reader / writer connected to the current port.
Using the reader / writer Inserting the memory card Insert the memory card into the appropriate slot of the reader / writer. When inserting the card, do it as quickly as possible. Notes The design of the slot is such that a memory card can only be inserted in the correct orientation. Only one card can be inserted into the corresponding memory card slot. Do not insert multiple memory cards at the same time. When inserting a mini SD memory card, use an appropriate adapter (not supplied). Do not insert the memory card upside down. Forcing the memory card in will damage the card or slot. If the memory card is inserted incorrectly, there is a risk that it cannot be removed. If the memory card still gets stuck in the reader / writer, contact your local Sony dealer.
