Your friends went on vacation, but got into an unpleasant situation: their bag with all the money was stolen. They called you and asked for a loan. You are ready to transfer the required amount, but what is the best way to do it? We will tell you about all possible methods of money transfers.

How can I transfer money?
There are always three people involved in a money transfer: the sender, the recipient and the intermediary - the one who delivers the money to the addressee.
Money can be sent through a bank, payment system or Post Service. Electronic wallets are also used for money transfers.
You can choose a non-cash transfer - in this case, the money will be sent from account to account. In case of a cash transfer, you will need to deposit the amount at the cash desk of the intermediary company, and the addressee will receive it at the partner's cash desk in his city. Combined options are also available - you send cash to the recipient's bank account.
The same intermediary may have several transfer options - for example, in cash through a branch or from card to card on the website.

When choosing an option, consider:
  • how is it most convenient for the addressee to receive money - for example, the offices of which intermediaries are in his locality;
  • how much you need to send - many intermediaries have restrictions on the size of one transfer or the amount of transfers per day, month;
  • how urgently the recipient needs money - the rate of receipt of funds depends on the method of transfer;
  • what is the commission for the operation - often the faster the money needs to be delivered to the recipient, the higher the tariff.

How do different translation methods differ from each other?
Let's consider the features of each option.

Through the bank
A universal way. You can send cash or make a wire transfer, within Russia or abroad, to a client of the same bank or another.
Suitable for: almost everyone. It is especially convenient if the sender and the recipient have accounts in the same bank.
How to make a transfer: through branches, ATMs, a personal account on the website or a mobile application. Some banks also offer SMS transfers.
You do not need to open an account to send cash through a bank office. It is enough to come to the department with a passport and fill out an application for transfer. In the application, the sender indicates the name and details of the bank where the money should come, as well as the last name, first name, patronymic of the addressee and his passport data. The recipient will be given money at the bank's cash desk.
The option is possible when you send cash at the branch, and the money comes to the addressee's bank account. In this case, instead of the recipient's passport data, you must indicate his account number.
Online transfers are available in your personal account on the bank's website or in its mobile application. You can transfer money from card to card or from account to account.
For SMS transfers, the sender and the recipient must have card accounts to which their phone numbers are linked. To make a transfer, you need to send a message to a specific number, indicating only the recipient's phone number and the amount. Detailed instructions on such transfers can be obtained from your bank.
To transfer through an ATM, the sender, as a rule, must have a card of this bank. You will also need the recipient's account, card or phone number. Sometimes banks only allow their own customers to transfer money through ATMs. And some ATMs allow you to make a transfer, even if the sender does not have a card, but the recipient has a bank account that owns the device.
Transfer amount: unlimited if you make it through bank branches. When transferring by other means, banks may impose restrictions on the amount of one operation, per day and per month.
Commission: within one bank is usually zero - for both online and offline transfers. Some banks set a limit for free transfers per month, and for sending amounts over the limit, they charge a commission - about 1-1.5%.
For a transfer from one bank to another, you will most often have to pay from 0.5 to 6%, depending on the amount, currency and transaction method.
Online transfers are always cheaper than at a branch of the same bank. For example, for sending a transfer through your personal account on the website or through a mobile application, you will be charged 0.5-1%, in the bank office - 1-2%.
As a rule, online transfers by requisites are the cheapest. In this case, money passes directly between bank accounts, bypassing the card payment system - there is no need to deduct part of the commission to it.
Transfer from a debit card to a card in another bank, as a rule, costs 1-1.5% of the amount, from a credit card - up to 6%.
Speed of money transfer: a few seconds if the transfer is made from card to card, including from different banks. In other cases, the transfer can take up to 3 business days.

Through the fast payment system (FPS)
FPS allows you to make transfers by phone number between clients of banks connected to this system.
Suitable for: people who have accounts in banks linked to a phone number, as well as access to an online bank or a banking mobile application.
How to make a transfer: in the menu of the application or online bank, you need to find the item "Transfer by phone number" or "Transfer via FPS", enter the recipient's phone number, the amount and select from the list that appears the name of the bank where the money will be sent.
Transfer amount: according to the law, a maximum of $ 10000 can be transferred. But banks can lower this limit on their own.
Commission: transfers via FPS up to $ 1500 per month are free. If the amount exceeds this limit, banks are entitled to take a commission up to 0.5% of the amount of the transfer, but not more than $ 25.
Money transfer speed: instantly.

Through one of the money transfer systems
Such systems allow you to transfer money without opening an account. Most of the systems have their own origin and collection points in different countries. In addition, they usually cooperate with banks, communication salons, mail - thus forming an extensive network of points where you can both send and receive transfers.
The register of payment system operators operating can be found on the Bank website.
Suitable for: almost everyone. Especially convenient for those who want to send money abroad.
How to make a transfer: to transfer cash, the sender needs to fill out an application, deposit money in the cashier, get a secret code and give it to the recipient. Without it, he will not be able to take the money. To receive a transfer, as a rule, it is required to present an identity document.
On the websites of many systems, you can send a transfer from a bank card to the recipient's bank account, including a foreign one, or arrange for a cash receipt through a branch.
Transfer amount: as a rule, money transfer systems are allowed to send within Russia no more than 600,000 rubles per month. For foreign countries, the limit may be even lower.
Commission: depends on the amount of the transfer and the country of destination. On average, in your country countries it is 1–1.5%, in non countries - 2–4%.
Money transfer speed: from a few minutes to 3 working days.

Via e-wallet
Through an e-wallet, you can send money to another e-wallet, bank account or bank card. In some cases, the addressee can receive cash at the office of one of the money transfer systems. But this option is available only if the e-wallet operator has an agreement with the transfer system.
Before starting an electronic wallet, you need to make sure that the operator company is included in the register of the Bank.
Suitable for : those who want to make transfers online, including without opening a bank account.
How to make a transfer : you need to create a personalized electronic wallet or a personal wallet with simplified identification.
A personalized wallet can only be opened offline - in the office of the operator company or its partners, and you will need a passport. For a personalized wallet with simplified identification, it is enough to fill out an online form and indicate your passport data in it.
Anonymous e-wallets, when registering only a login and a phone number, are not suitable for transfers.
You can replenish your wallet in cash through the payment terminals of the operating company, as well as through ATMs and branches of its partners. It is also easy to deposit money to the wallet from a bank card through the operator's website.
You can send money to the recipient to his e-wallet or bank card.
Transfer amount: for wallets with simplified identification - no more than $ 1000 at a time and no more than $ 3000 per month. For personalized wallets, the transfer limit is $ 10000 at a time. Moreover, the number of transactions per month is unlimited.
Commission: e-wallet operators often impose complex commissions on their services. The size of the commission may depend on the type of wallet, the direction of the transfer - to the wallet or card - and other conditions. It ranges from 0 to 3%.
Money transfer speed: between wallets - instantly. Money from a wallet to a card or bank account can go up to 3 business days.

Through the "Post Service"
One of the oldest money transfer methods.
Suitable for: convenient for those who want to send money to some small settlement, where there are no banks, but there is a post office.
How to make a translation: There are several options.
You send money in cash through post offices, and it will be issued to the addressee by mail. To do this, you need the last name, first name, patronymic of the recipient and his address. The sender only needs a passport. You can also send cash to a bank account - but instead of the recipient's address, you will need to give his account number.
On the mail site, you can make an online transfer from your card to another person's card or with the ability to receive this money in cash at the branch.
Transfer amount: up to $ 10000 can be sent in cash, if the recipient himself comes to receive them by mail. You can order money delivery to your home, then the transfer limit is $ 2000. By non-cash method, you can send up to $ 5000.
Commission: consists of several parts. Depending on the size of the transfer, you will have to pay $ 2-5 for the operation, plus 1.5–5% of its amount. In some regions, additional local commissions are charged.
Money transfer time: from 2 to 6 days.

How not to lose money when transferring?
Whichever method you choose, make sure that the intermediary company is operating legally. You can check it on the website of the Bank (you need to drive the legal name into the search box, it is usually indicated on the company's website). If you are doing an online translation, make sure that you are on the official website of the company, and not on a duplicate website.
It may turn out that you accidentally sent money to the wrong person. Or vice versa, you received an unexpected translation from a stranger. What to do in such cases, you can learn from the article "How to return money that you sent or received by mistake".
