MIFARE 1k, MIFARE 4K – most customers do not suspect the division of chips into original and analog. Meanwhile, this is a fundamental question: a real chip, released under license and in compliance with all technological standards, will last longer. In this article, we will consider who to trust when buying chips and what the use of Chinese analogs affects.
1. Manufacturer: who to trust?
A subsidiary of Phillips, NXP, and the Infineon organization, working under license, are the ones who produce chips according to international standards (ISO 14443A). Legally, no other company can produce chips that meet MIFARE S50 and S70 certification.
However, demand creates supply, and the market is widely represented by analogs of MIFARE 1k, MIFARE 4K chips - FM11RF08, ISSI, HuaHong. This is only a small fraction of non-original microcircuits, they are supplied in abundance by China and do it without a license. Of course, there is no talk of any compliance with standards and strict control of the technological process. Therefore, when buying unlicensed microcircuits at the price of originals, the buyer bears certain risks (often without even suspecting it).
2. Original or analog?
Chinese analogs of chips have a small resource, compared to the original. In addition, chipped cards are often used in the access system to something, and if the companies that produce original MIFARE 1k and MIFARE 4K track their series and numbers, then companies whose activities are not regulated can release chips that duplicate each other. Such a coincidence and the possible appearance of twin cards threaten the safety of using analog chips.
3. How to identify a fake?
Using special equipment (RFID), you can confirm or refute the original origin of the chip. The buzzer and light signal of the reader will unmistakably indicate the origin of the chip being tested. Single green flashing on MIFARE 1K chip and triple green flashing on MIFARE 4k is an indicator of originality. Other light signals are triggered by analogs.
