Global IT giant Microsoft announced that the company's lawyers have received a court order that allows them to confiscate the American infrastructure of a major player in the Cybercrime-as-a-Service segment - Storm-1152. The main business of cybercriminals is the sale of fraudulent Outlook accounts, and in total they have created at least 750 million fraudulent accounts associated with the corporation.
“Storm-1152 creates illegal websites and social media pages, selling fraudulent Microsoft accounts and tools to bypass identity verification programs on well-known technology platforms. These services reduce the time and effort required by criminals to commit many criminal and abusive activities online,” the company said in a statement.
According to Microsoft, the service, based in Vietnam, has close business contacts with many major ransomware and ransomware groups. Storm-1152's asset forfeiture order in the US includes, among other things, the closure of several sites: hotmailbox[.]me, which was used to sell fraudulent Outlook accounts, as well as 1stCAPTCHA, AnyCAPTCHA and NoneCAPTCHA, which provided tools for automatically solving identity verification blocks , which makes it possible for mass registration. In addition, Microsoft filed a lawsuit against three Vietnamese citizens whom the company suspects of involvement in the activities of Storm-1152.
