A potential delay does not remove restrictions, but it does give you a chance to adapt.

Softline Group of Companies has received information about a possible postponement of the suspension of access to Microsoft cloud services in Russia. Previously, the restrictions were expected to take effect on March 20, 2024.

According to Andrey Prudazumov, Vice President of Softline, Microsoft representatives are considering moving the shutdown date to the end of this month.

"Through our own channels, we have just received information from Microsoft representatives that due to the proactive position of Softline customers, the vendor has begun discussing the issue of postponing the suspension of services and data access from March 20 to the end of the month," Softline said.

Razorazumov stressed that the potential delay does not cancel the imposed restrictions, but will provide the necessary time to create backup copies of data and configure an alternative IT infrastructure.

According to the information available to Softline, subscriptions to products such as Teams, One drive, Azure, Office 365 M365, all web services (including free ones), SQL On-prem Server, System center server (security updates will no longer be delivered), and all versions of Excel will definitely be blocked. Keys on MS Visio and Office will also be blocked, and Security updates (WSUS) will not be delivered.

The shutdown is also expected to affect free versions of Power BI Pro, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft Online Protection. At the same time, restrictions will apply only to companies registered in the territory of the Russian Federation, while multinational companies and educational products should not be blocked. Products intended for use by individuals should also not fall under these measures.

Earlier it became known that the American technology giants Microsoft and Amazon plan to stop providing access to their cloud products for Russian companies from March 20, 2024. The reason for this decision is the new sanctions imposed by the European Union on December 19, 2023. The twelfth package of sanctions includes restrictions on the supply of various software to Russia.
