This option allows you to bypass DNS packet blocking and improve network compatibility.

The Microsoft released an update for the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The new version 2.2.1 includes DNS tunneling by default, which should improve network compatibility.

Previously, DNS tunneling was only in experimental mode. It is designed to address situations where some WSL users cannot access the Internet because the network packet for DNS sent by the VM to the Windows host is blocked, either due to firewall settings, VPN, or other network scenarios. When DNS tunneling is enabled, the virtualization option is used for direct communication with Windows and thus allows you to reject network packets sent to the host. This process ensures a more stable and reliable network operation in WSL.

In addition, Microsoft has implemented DNS tunneling integration with Docker support built into Linux.

Other improvements and fixes in WSL version 2.2.1 include a default recovery mode for deleting cache, troubleshooting issues that cause crashes in certain cases, updating the Linux kernel to version 5.15 LTS, and fixes aimed at eliminating previously detected errors.
