Meta is not going to fall behind in the race of AI technologies.
Mark Zuckerberg has announced the first Meta* consumer products based on generative artificial intelligence, including a Meta AI chatbot that can generate text responses and photorealistic images. At the presentation, Zuckerberg noted that the innovations relate not only to answering queries, but also to entertainment, as well as helping users with socialization issues.
Meta AI will also be integrated into the new generation of Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, first as part of beta testing in the US. It is planned that next year the software will give Meta AI the ability to identify places and objects that people see, as well as perform language translation.
One of the key features of the chatbot is the ability to generate images on demand, similar to Midjourney or DALL-E from OpenAI. It is worth noting that all Meta AI functions are provided to users absolutely free of charge.
MetaAI generates images on demand
The creation of Meta AI was based on the Meta Llama 2 model, which the company released to the community in July. The chatbot will have access to real-time information through a partnership with Microsoft's Bing search engine.
The chatbot usedBing to respond to a user's request
The company is also working on a platform that will allow developers and regular users to create their own AI bots that will have Instagram and Facebook profiles and eventually appear as avatars in the metaverse.
The company also introduced 28 AI characters, many of which are created in the image of celebrities, such as Kendall Jenner, blogger MrBeast, Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton. It is noteworthy that digital celebrities are slightly animated depending on the course of the conversation, making the interaction more attractive.
Virtual AI stars
During testing Meta AI, it turned out that the company spent 6 thousand hours identifying and eliminating problematic use cases in order to avoid possible scandals. Meta AI is not yet trained on public data from Instagram and Facebook users, but apparently this is planned in the future. For example, Meta AI will process videos from a specific region.
In the course of communication with Meta representatives, it became clear that the company sees its competitive advantage in the scale of distribution of its messengers — billions of users daily. The Meta assistant is built directly into chats, making it easily accessible and user-friendly.
