Responsibility for the hack is assigned to a well-known cybercriminal group.
The Boni supermarket chain in the Netherlands was the victim of a major cyberattack, as a result of which attackers gained access to part of the company's computer system. Boni representatives confirmed the hack, but refused to disclose whether the hackers managed to steal any data.
HackManac was the first to report on the hack. According to her, cybercriminals stole about 16 gigabytes of data, including financial statements, personal information of employees and customers, as well as internal company documents. A ransomware group called Akira is believed to be behind the attack.
This group has long attracted the attention of international security organizations. In April of this year, organizations such as the FBI and Europol issued a warning about Akira's activities. Since March last year, the group has carried out more than 250 attacks on companies and organizations in North America, Europe and Australia.
According to authorities, the attackers demand a ransom in bitcoins in exchange for the return of the stolen data, and the total amount of their demands may reach $42 million.
After the incident, Boni management took immediate measures to prevent repeated attacks. The company has strengthened the protection of its systems and is actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
Boni, a well-known supermarket chain in the Netherlands, serves thousands of customers across the country. For the company, as well as for its customers, the issue of cybersecurity is now becoming a priority. Currently, the network continues to operate normally, but the incident has caused concern among many buyers.
Cybersecurity experts note that such attacks are becoming more common, especially against large companies, and call for stronger measures to protect personal data and corporate systems.
