Disorganized people can be creative and interesting, but collaborating with them is not always enjoyable. You have to wait for such a person to do their job. This addiction can put pressure on you and even make you feel guilty and guilty. The disorganization of individual team members can ruin the overall work. What can be done in such cases? What is the right way to lead disorganized people?

Searching for a reason

Before you start looking for a solution, you need to accurately determine the cause. Ask yourself the following questions:
  • Do your team members understand why it is important to be organized?
  • Do they think getting organized is not very important? Perhaps they just do not see this as a problem? You need to make them understand how the lack of organization of even one person affects the entire team.
  • Are your team members subject to situational disorganization? It happens when disorganization arises in a specific situation and affects further work. It can be a divorce, promotion, family affairs, a serious illness.
  • Does disorganization have good consequences in their case? Some people feel like fish in water precisely in situations in which complete chaos reigns. They work best under severe pressure and are capable of producing good results.
  • Are your employees susceptible to depression, attention disorder, long-term melancholy? If you have such suspicions, talk to the person and convince him to get tested.
There are two reasons why people are reluctant to pay attention to their lives and are disorganized.

Lack of knowledge

Often times, people need to explain why the organization is so important. For example:
  • Express your concern. Tell them that you are concerned about their disorganization. You want to help these people succeed.
  • Focus on the benefits of the company and their personal benefits. People may not even be aware of how disorganization can affect their success and the success of the company. Make it clear that the right mindset will reduce stress and save you tons of time. This will open up new opportunities for them.

Lack of motivation

What if people are not motivated enough to bring order to their lives?
  • Draw a clear parallel between disorganization and stress. Remind them of recent times they lost their temper and tell them why. Motivation arises when a person sees a clear relationship between their actions and results.
  • Explain all the benefits. If the person wants to be promoted, explain to him what you need to cultivate in order to get the position.
  • Find out why they are not motivated. Perhaps it is a matter of insecurity or personal problems. Find the real reason.
  • Discipline. This also includes the application of punishments. Just make sure it doesn't make the situation worse.

What if your manager is disorganized?

In this case, things are even more complicated. If you are the leader of a company, you may be tempted to simply have a manager complete an agreed to-do list. However, this is only a superficial guide, you need to be wiser.
  • Pay the manager's conscious attention to the problem. A manager's disorganization affects the team and the entire company, so make sure that the person understands that they must be responsible.
  • Use color coding. Urgent files or tasks should be placed in red folders; documents requiring signature - in green; cases requiring consideration - in blue and so on. This visibility will help you to see and structure tasks in the correct order: they will not pile up and lead to stress.
  • Use descriptive phrases in emails. This approach will help the manager to properly sort letters and determine which approach to apply to them.
  • Limit your choices. Disorganization often occurs where a person has several options for choice and cannot make a decision. Therefore, limit this number to three and give him the freedom to act within this framework.

Advice

Sometimes the smallest changes lead to amazing results. Consider the following tips:
  • Combine information. Several files or documents on one topic should be combined with each other and separated from documents and files on another. This simple approach allows you not to waste time and keep your head clear.
  • Learn time management. A person who has achieved success in this art achieves much more than a disorganized one. All great people have done well and have come up with their own time scheduling systems.
  • Set company goals. Talk about them over and over again.
  • Encourage and reward. This is the best way to dilute your routine.
We wish you good luck!
