Hello, cyberstalkers! Hello, random carders. Attacks on ordinary ATMs in our time are no longer surprising to anyone. But recently, due to the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies, ATM-like devices for working with cryptocurrencies have appeared on the market. In fact, they are not ATMs in the traditional sense, although they are called the same.

Go:

According to Bitcoinist analysts, the number of such terminals in 2017 increased fourfold and amounted to about 3,500 machines. The lion's share of this market belongs to the companies Genesis Coin and General Bytes.

To perform operations with cryptocurrency, such terminals are connected to exchangers and exchanges, and the user will only need a phone number, an identity card, and, of course, the address of a cryptocurrency wallet.

Until recently, such devices were considered quite safe, but now Trend Micro analysts have warned that an unnamed virus writer with a good reputation has started selling malware for Bitcoin ATM on the darknet for $ 25,000.

The malware developer explains that he has discovered a vulnerability that allows an attacker to get bitcoins worth $6,750 from an ATM. Buyers of the malicious solution are offered ready-to-use cards with EMV and NFC support.

Other ads of this virus writer show that it also sells other malware, including for regular ATMs, also adapted to work with the EMV standard. Judging by the description, this malware also exploits a certain bug, disconnects the machine from the network and prevents the "alarm" from triggering.

Trend Micro experts warn that with the growing number of cryptocurrency ATMs, such malware will appear more and more often, that is, the history of ordinary ATMs will repeat.

We draw conclusions, gentlemen. The market for criminal cyber services is growing and expanding. There is a place for everyone.
