Failure to comply with the requirement of hackers led to more serious consequences.

Cybercriminals have announced the sale of stolen data from a children's hospital in Chicago for 60 BTC.

The attack on Lurie Children's Hospital was announced in early February, when IT systems had to be shut down as a result of the attack, which caused disruptions in normal operation and delayed medical services. Despite the incident, the hospital stated its intention to continue working and provide care to patients with minimal violations, although some appointments and scheduled operations were canceled.

The ransomware group Rhysida said that it sold all the stolen data on the darknet for 60 BTC, which is equivalent to just over $3.4 million. Earlier, the attackers demanded a ransom from the hospital with a similar amount, but their demands were not met.

The cybercriminals ' announcement came as the hospital reported progress in restoring key systems, including its electronic medical records platform and telephone system. A statement on the hospital's website says that the recovery process takes time due to the high complexity of the systems.

Lurie Children's Hospital is one of the leading children's medical institutions in the United States, serving approximately 239,000 children annually and providing care to a large number of children with cancer.

Problems with prescription systems have forced parents to seek out other doctors to help their children access life-saving medications. A spokesperson for the Lurie Hospital said that it is working closely with experts and law enforcement agencies to investigate ransomware claims about the sale of data. The representative did not comment on the expected impact of the sale on staff, parents or patients.
