The Open Source Foundation accepts applications from those who want to speak at the LibrePlanet 2024 conference, which is held for activists, hackers, legal professionals, artists, educators, students, politicians and technology enthusiasts who respect the user's freedom and want to discuss current issues. The conference welcomes newcomers, both as speakers and as visitors.

The conference will be held in March 2024, near Boston (USA). LibrePlanet will not be held online, however, it will provide an online broadcast of reports and the ability to ask questions via IRC. The theme of the 2024 conference is "Community Development". It is proposed to discuss topics related to expanding the free software community, attracting inactive participants, and creating communities. Applications for reports are accepted until October 25, 2023. To apply, you must register on the Open Source Foundation's website.

The LibrePlanet Organizing Committee is waiting for applications for lectures, public discussions and seminars, without restrictions on age and professional level. As in previous years, presentations are expected to fall under one of the following categories: licensing, computer security, community, "social context", hardware, expanding the use of free software (freedom ladder), documentation for free software, free software in government, education or work processes, seminars as well as reports that deal more abstractly with concepts related to free software.

It is expected that the topics of the sessions will at least in some sense correspond to the general theme of the conference: "Community development". For example, as your own event, you can:

* Talk about ways to effectively organize the community, increase diversity, improve the organization of work with volunteers, and transfer users of your free software to the category of contributors.

* Tell us how you are climbing the"freedom ladder", and also in which areas of life integration of free software is particularly difficult, or vice versa, easy and convenient.

* Consider the communities that are emerging around free software in the narrower contexts of education, licensing, medicine, public services, business, the arts, social movements, diversity promotion, and the development of tools for people with disabilities.

* Talk about your free software or hardware project, with a focus on how your project attracts new contributors or users.

* Showcase free communication platforms or forums that improve community engagement.

* Organize a workshop on how to use some free software tools, how to become a real hacker, or how to just start your journey in the free software world.

* Conduct a hackathon.

Ideas for your presentations can also be gleaned from reports from conferences over the years, as well as videos. All applications will be reviewed by a public committee representing a wide range of experts from different fields.

In 2024, the LibrePlanet conference will focus on offline events, as experience has shown that offline events improve the quality of interaction between participants. However, applications for online sessions will also be considered. If necessary, the Open Source Foundation can provide financial support to cover transportation costs for a trip to Boston.

On Tuesday, October 19, from 20:00 to 21:00 MSK (17:00-18:00 UTC) on the Libera IRC network.There will be a "LibrePlanet hour" where you can ask the organizers questions and make suggestions, as well as participate in the work of the LibrePlanet 2024 organizing committee, get help in organizing a report or seminar, or just chat. You can also send your questions and suggestions by email [email protected].
