Every post on the internet will be tracked by AI to help the police find criminals.
The National Police Agency of Japan (NPA) has started using artificial intelligence in its cyber patrols to identify information on the network that can lead to crimes. This was reported by Japanese media.
Previously, a private IT company commissioned by the police searched for posts on social networks and websites, using keywords that could indicate criminal activities, especially those related to firearms and explosives. The new AI-based system automatically picks out suspicious content from the myriad pieces of information on the web, analyzing words and their context.
The use of the technology is due to the fact that recently there have been a series of crimes involving the use of firearms and explosives, which attackers were able to manufacture using information on the Internet. Robberies and fraudulent activities committed by individuals recruited through online publications were also reported.
The National Police Agency expressed the hope that the AI-based system will help prevent crimes. It is noted that this system will make cyber patrolling more effective and will allow detecting malicious information in time, increasing the level of security in the digital space.
