An Israeli man arrested in New York has confirmed his involvement in hiring hackers to break into the personal data of American lawyers and officials.

An Israeli private investigator detained in New York in 2019 on charges of participating in a hacking scheme pleaded guilty on Wednesday to fraud and conspiracy to conduct hacking attacks to steal personal data.

Prosecutors said Detective Aviram Azari was the mastermind behind the hacking attacks on American companies in New York. He was supposed to report about alleged hacking of mailbox accounts to subscribers and ask them for passwords, then he had to transfer this data to third parties .

According to US police, Azari was accused of having links to a New Delhi-based company, BellTroX InfoTech Services, which was behind a hacking scheme against US companies, lawyers, officials and businessmen.
