After orgasm, the following hormones are produced in the human body:
- serotonin (improving mood);
- dopamine (giving pleasure);
- oxytocin (attachment hormone);
- endorphins (hormones of happiness).

It is not for nothing that sexual intercourse is considered almost a panacea for depression. But is it only sex that affects the production of happiness hormones? Can I replace it?

?‍♂️ Where to look for serotonin
Serotonin is often referred to as the hormone of happiness. Figuratively speaking, it calms you down when you feel anxious and depressed. One of the signs that the hormone serotonin is in deficiency is anxious thoughts, sleep disturbances. Sometimes even eating disorders such as anorexia and binge eating are dependent on serotonin levels.

When the level of this hormone drops, a person feels weak, apathy and easily succumbs to depressive moods. It is not yet reliably known what is the cause and what is the effect: low serotonin levels cause depression or vice versa.

Since serotonin is a hormone that is produced in the human body, it is impossible to find it in food. You can increase serotonin levels by eating foods that have high levels of tryptophan. You can also add sweets, bananas, figs to your diet, as well as foods that contain complex carbohydrates: whole grain breads, cereals, durum pasta and other foods.

Sunlight plays an important role in maintaining serotonin levels. Remember how the mood drops in cloudy weather, but on a sunny day, on the contrary, it improves. The hormone is produced better in light, so be in the sun more often.

You can also control the hormone of happiness, or rather its level, with the help of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. To increase it, consume fish oil, as well as some types of vegetable oils.

Low serotonin levels cause depression, and depression is often treated with antidepressants in the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors group.

What are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors? During depression, the hormone of happiness is produced, but undergoes reuptake into synapses, in other words, into accumulators. It turns out that the hormone does not enter the bloodstream, which means that the level of serotonin decreases.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors aim to block it at synapses. However, we do not recommend taking them without a doctor's prescription, as they have a number of side effects, including anorgasmia, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and others.

Sources of dopamine
Dopamine levels increase from certain foods: fish, eggs, beets, apples, strawberries, and green tea. You can also increase the amount of this hormone through exercise.

Sources of endorphins
Endorphin levels can be controlled not only through sex, but also through laughter, sports, and other activities that bring joy. Sugary foods can also increase the level of this happiness hormone in the body.

Sources of oxytocin
Unfortunately, food does not affect the level of oxytocin. The pleasant voice of the partner stimulates the release of oxytocin. You can also "get enough" with oxytocin by stroking and hugging. In recent years, scientists have suggested that it is oxytocin that makes some voices "enchanting" and "magical" for us.
