With the development of new deepfake technologies, it becomes much more difficult to determine the reliability of this or that information published on the Internet. Such technologies make it easy to manipulate images and videos through the use of neural networks that can simulate the speech, movement and appearance of people.

In this regard, a group of scientists from Boston University has developed an algorithm to protect images from being used as the basis of deepfakes.

The algorithm applies an invisible filter to the image or video, and if someone tries to use a neural network to modify these files, they either remain unchanged or become completely distorted - the filter changes the pixels in such a way that the video and images become unusable for making deepfakes.

The project developers have posted the source code of the technology on GitHub, and also posted a video demonstrating its work.
