Contactless payments are rapidly gaining popularity around the world due to their speed and convenience. Initially, users could pay for a purchase with one touch using their contactless card. Then solutions like Apple Pay and Google Pay made it possible to make quick payments with a phone that was always with you. But technology companies do not stop there and offer to use not only accessories such as rings and bracelets, but also clothes as payment instruments.

TOP 5 clothing items with support for contactless payments

1. Shirt

A few days ago, the British clothing brand DressCode announced the sale of men's shirts with a built-in NFC module, which allows you to make contactless payments with one touch of your wrist to the terminal. The chip is tied to a prepaid Mastercard, and if necessary, it can be turned off at any time. The shirt is currently available in four colors with NFC payment support. Its cost is 135 pounds.

2. Jacket

Several years ago, Barclaycard and Lyle & Scott introduced a contactless payment jacket powered by the bPay platform. The cuff on the right sleeve of the jacket has the same chip that is used in bank cards. Thus, the owner of such "smart" clothes can pay for purchases in shops, bars and restaurants with one touch of the sleeve to the terminal. Reversible hooded jacket available for £ 150.

3. Gloves

For the 2018 Olympic Games, Visa introduced three gadgets equipped with NFC technology, which allowed one-touch payments for purchases. Gloves attracted particular interest. Just imagine the convenience of making a payment without having to take out your phone or credit card and, accordingly, expose your hands to the cold once again.

Along with the gloves, Visa introduced NFC payment stickers that can be attached to any item, and commemorative badges - also with payment support.

4. Scarf

A few years ago, on Christmas Eve, UK company Card Cutters introduced a payment-enabled scarf. A chip is sewn into one end of the accessory, which allows you to pay for purchases at the checkout simply by holding the scarf to the terminal. According to the company, this is especially important on the eve of the holidays, when you need to pay quickly and conveniently.

5. Jumper

Visa last year surprised with another piece of clothing that supports payment functionality. Specially designed jumpers have enabled a team of fundraisers to raise money to help children at 16 London Underground stations. The jumper sleeves have built-in contactless payment card readers, so passengers just had to put their card or phone to the jumper sleeve and automatically donate £ 2.

It turns out that many people are even ready to implant chips for contactless payments in order to speed up the payment process. Thus, according to a poll by YouGov and PaymentSense, 11% of Londoners and about 9% of all UK citizens support the idea of implanting a chip under the skin for contactless payments.
