The Vitebsk City Department of the Investigative Committee establishes the circumstances of fraud committed on a large scale.
According to the investigation, on March 19 of this year, a 37 – year-old resident of Vitebsk received a message on a popular social network about a large prize-100 thousand Russian rubles. The woman was surprised, because she did not participate in any practical jokes. According to the interlocutor, it doesn't matter, because the program chose her as the winner. However, to receive the "coveted prize", you must pay a commission. Elated by the win, the woman fulfilled this requirement.
Clever scammers did not stop there, having received the money, they continued to pull out the savings of their victim. A resident of the regional center was convinced that depositing more funds would help increase her winnings.
In total, the victim transferred more than 925 thousand Russian rubles to fraudsters, and the imaginary prize that she was promised at that time was more than a million.
When a trusting woman wanted to withdraw her money, the attackers offered her to fly to Dubai or continue paying the commission so that they could transfer the winnings to her bank payment card.
Given that the woman had already transferred all her savings and the last salary, she was going to borrow money from friends. However, her husband became aware of the non-existent millions, who turned to law enforcement agencies.
The investigator questioned the victim and witnesses. Information stored on the mobile phone of a resident of the regional center, including correspondence with fraudsters, was examined and studied.
The Vitebsk City Department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on this fact under Part 3 of Article 209 (fraud committed on a large scale). Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. Currently, investigative actions and operational search measures are being carried out aimed at identifying the perpetrators of this crime.
