Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Tomsk region detained three local residents. They are suspected of committing several episodes of telephone fraud.
"It was previously established that in the city of Tomsk, malefactors arranged a call center in the apartment, which was equipped with communication equipment and computer equipment. They called pensioners and told them that their relative was responsible for the accident. Money was demanded for exemption from criminal liability. Then a courier was sent to them, who collected the money and transferred it to bank accounts issued to third parties. Seven elderly residents of the city of Seversk, Tomsk region, were deceived. The total damage exceeded two million rubles," - said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
As a result of operational search activities, the police, together with colleagues from the Rosgvardiya, detained the suspects. During the searches, more than a hundred bank cards, mobile phones, and computer equipment were seized.
"By investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for 2015. Seversk, Tomsk region criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes under parts 2 and 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which are currently combined into one production. The defendants were given various preventive measures," Iryna Volk added.
