In May 2023, employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, as a result of operational search activities, detained three men aged 24 to 31 years in Ufa, suspected of fraud against a resident of the Northern capital.
Then it was established that the victim transferred 110 thousand rubles for an outboard motor, the announcement of the sale of which accomplices published on a popular website. After the transaction, the accomplices stopped communicating. Two defendants were taken into custody, and another was given a preventive measure in the form of house arrest.
As a result of further work, detectives established additional episodes of illegal activities of the detained scammers, as well as two more members of an organized criminal group – a 23-year-old native of Moscow and a 23-year-old resident of the Republic of Tatarstan. Both malefactors were detained in Kazan on October 2 of this year and were detained under Article 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation until a preventive measure was chosen. 598 thousand rubles, phones and electronic storage devices were seized from them.
It was previously established that in March 2023, all five men, under the guise of selling shares in a large energy company, took possession of the money of a resident of St. Petersburg in the amount of more than 360 thousand rubles. In addition, at the end of last year, they fraudulently stole more than 1.3 million rubles from a resident of the Nevsky district under the pretext of making investments.
Three criminal cases were initiated against the five accomplices under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which are combined into one production and are being investigated by the Main Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
