The police of the Poltava region stopped the criminal activity of a fraudster who deceived people on online platforms under the pretext of delivering cars from Europe for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among the victims are military personnel and volunteers. The total amount of damage caused by fraudulent actions is about 250 thousand hryvnias.

Operatives of the Criminal investigation Department of the Poltava region police, together with investigators of the Investigative Department of the Main Police Department, under the procedural guidance of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, exposed the illegal activities of a 23-year-old Poltava resident who posted ads on online platforms about the delivery of cars from Europe for the military needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The man asked to pay for a subscription, and after receiving the money "disappeared" from the network. Thus, the attacker deceived people for almost 250 thousand hryvnias. Among the victims are military personnel and volunteers.

During a court-sanctioned search of the defendant's place of residence, police seized mobile phones, a tablet, bank cards, SIM cards, cash, draft records and other physical evidence.

Serhiy Rekun, Deputy Chief of Police of the Poltava region, said:

"Having collected an irrefutable evidence base, police investigators informed the person involved about suspicion of committing eight episodes of criminal activity. The court chose him a measure of restraint-house arrest. After the completion of the pre-trial investigation regarding the commission of a criminal offense by a person under Part 3 of Article 190 (Fraud committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, the indictment in criminal proceedings is sent to the court."

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Poltava sentenced the man to four years in prison, releasing him from serving his sentence under Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with a three-year probation. He also ordered the convict to pay more than 200 thousand hryvnias to citizens who suffered from fraudulent actions.
