Employees of the criminal investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Perm Region, together with colleagues from Magnitogorsk and Kazan, detained two men on suspicion of embezzlement of funds.

"It is established that one of the accomplices last fall purchased GSM gateways, SIM cards and computer equipment for the purpose of renting out phone numbers in the shadow segment of the Internet. In the future, the IP telephony services provided by them were used by fraudsters, and the attacker was aware of this. Subsequently, the man involved his friend in illegal activities, who ensured the uninterrupted operation of equipment, changed SIM cards in GSM gateways and controlled a stable Internet connection.

The investigator of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Perm Region questioned the detainees as suspects in a criminal case initiated on the grounds of a crime under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. They chose a preventive measure in the form of remand in custody.

More than 12 thousand SIM cards of various mobile operators were seized, as well as a large number of mobile phones, system blocks, routers, modems and other items of evidentiary value," said Irina Volk, an official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry.

At the moment, it is known about three episodes of theft from electronic accounts of victims. The preliminary investigation continues.
