Officers of the criminal investigation department, together with investigators of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the North-East Administrative District of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Moscow, solved the theft of a large amount of money from a Moscow ATM committed in August 2022. The attackers turned out to be two men aged 30 and 39 years.

Earlier, a representative of the branch of a financial institution turned to the police with a statement about the theft. He said that during the collection, the fact of acceptance of counterfeit banknotes by an ATM located in the north-east of the capital was revealed, and real money in the total amount of about 450 thousand rubles was stolen by unknown persons from a nearby device.

An investigator of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the North-Eastern Administrative District of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow initiated a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and police officers began operational-search activities. However, the police managed to identify the suspects only this year as part of the work to solve crimes of past years.

According to the investigation, the attackers purchased fake banknotes with a face value of 5 thousand rubles from an unidentified person in advance, similar in appearance and technical characteristics to the notes of the Bank of Russia. In masks and a change of clothes, the accomplices deposited insolvent money into their account through an ATM, and when they were credited, they cashed it out in a nearby machine.

A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen against one of the detainees. The second defendant is currently serving a sentence in one of the correctional institutions of the Russian Federation for a similar crime committed earlier.

The investigation is ongoing. The investigation is establishing the identity of the counterfeiter and other possible persons involved in this crime.
