Employees of the UBK Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Moscow region, together with colleagues from the Ramenskoye Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, detained an 18-year-old native of the Vladimir region. He is suspected of providing assistance to telephone fraudsters from Ukraine.

"The police department received a statement from a local resident that a man who introduced himself as an employee of one of the mobile operators called her on her smartphone. He informed about the need to extend the contract for the provision of services. To do this, it was allegedly necessary to dictate the code from the SMS message received on the phone.

After the woman fulfilled the requirement, she received an email about hacking her personal account on the Public Services portal. The message listed the phone number of the hotline. After calling it, the citizen was redirected to the number of the swindler, who introduced himself as an employee of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. He convinced her to go to an ATM and transfer money to certain checking accounts. The damage amounted to more than 1 million 200 thousand rubles, " - said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

An investigator of the Ramenskoye Municipal Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

"As a result of operational search activities, the police established subscriber devices and the place of activation of SIM cards, from which the scammers called the applicant. Based on the data obtained, police officers conducted a search in one of the rooms of a hostel in Moscow, where a visitor from the Vladimir region lived. Mobile phones, tablet computers, laptops, SIM cards of various telecom operators were found and seized," Irina Volk said.

The detainee admitted that in one of the messengers, an unknown person offered him a part-time job-to activate SIM cards and register virtual PBX. This made it possible to make calls from abroad with the substitution of a phone number for a Russian one.

"According to operational information, the suspect activated about a thousand SIM cards. Thanks to this, the curator was able to call Russian citizens from the territory of Ukraine for remote theft of their funds. It was previously established that at least 17 residents of the Moscow region suffered from illegal actions," Irina Volk added.

The defendant was given a preventive measure in the form of recognizance not to leave and proper behavior.
