In Madrid, three intruders were detained who tried to steal about 78 tons of frozen chicken. To this end, they used the so-called business email compromise (BEC) method.
It is noted that the list of those arrested includes a fraudster, for whom an arrest warrant and prison sentence were previously issued in Romania. He is accused of committing a series of cyber attacks in Poland and Finland.
So, in order to ingratiate themselves with the employees of a frozen chicken production company from Finland, the scammers presented themselves as a supposedly reliable supplier from the Netherlands. As a result, they tricked them into sending 78 tons of products worth a total of about 300 thousand euros.
In addition, a part of the funds has already been paid as an advance payment and compensation for transportation has been agreed. However, the chicken was sent not to the Netherlands, but to Madrid and Seville. Thus, the Finnish company has lost the right to demand payment or make a refund of this product.
